The first thing I told Pappa when I woke up on Friday morning was all about my dream. I told him I wanted to go camp. Pappa laughed out loud, but he could see I wasn’t joking…
The river play pen 🤣
That afternoon Pappa started to pack his bike and our trailer. He said we are going camping! Zak and I helped him to pack all our stuff. But Pappa kept on throwing out some of our stuff. He said we are going to make the trailer too heavy.
I kept on asking him when we were going, he took way too long. When we finally left Zak and I was so excited.
All packed and ready to go…
Pappa stopped at the shop and bought us each a surprise, he said we can only get it if we were good. When we finally hit the gravel road Pappa stopped and took some photos and gave us our surprises, it was Keedo Eggs! Zak had chocolate all over his face, Pappa said we needed to go as the Sun was going down and we still needed to find a place to camp. From there we rode very slow, I kept on asking Pappa to go faster but he just stood up out of his saddle and said we are going up a big hill. Pappa was taking too long and we wanted to stop, Zak also started moaning now. Pappa said we are looking for a river, he promised I can play in the river with my Lego Figurines.
First pitstop of the afternoon
Climbing into the mountains for our overnight spot.
We finally stopped, Pappa wanted to set up camp first but I wanted to play in the river. He carried me and Zak down to the river, it had lots of stones in it and we could throw them into the water.
After I helped Pappa pitch the tent, he made us noodles and tea, it got dark quickly and we ate our noodles in the tent, Zak was getting tired now and I wanted to sleep as well.
Pappa told us stories of two boys and their Dad, who went camping in the mountains before we fell asleep.
Climbing up and down into the river bed
Chocolate faces, only when boys are left out in the wild.
Home for the night
The next morning was very cold and Zak was crying. All Pappa’s friends came riding past on their bicycles. Some stopped and talked to Pappa. After we had our Oats and Pappa had coffee we packed up camp, I didn’t want to help Pappa and Zak kept on crying.
When we finally got everything loaded Pappa saw that the Trailer had a flat wheel. He said he was not fixing it now and climbed on his bike to ride. We rode for a while and then he stopped to give us juice and fix the wheel.
He said we were on our way to go play at my cousins Maya and Hanna’s house, I was very excited. Pappa started to ride fast again and Zak and I started to sing. We only stopped once more when Pappa gave us each a bread roll to eat, but Zak was sleeping.
I enjoyed looking at the cows, horses and birds as we rode on the gravel roads. Pappa was smiling again and we were riding fast, it was fun.
Bikepacking with the Boys was hard but rewarding, they don’t always understand what needs to be done at a certain time, I needed to change my mindset really quickly and let things unfold naturally. They created a big muddy mess inside the tent and I even found a big chunk of mud inside my Bialetti the next morning (luckily I checked before firing it up). The beauty of these trips are really just about learning from each other. As parents (or at least us) we tend to get so worked up about small things with the kids, out there they and I had to learn to just let things be. I hope to take them on more trips soon, maybe just not in winter.
